Liverpool Mens Shed Update 1st August 2019

About the Liverpool District Men’s Shed:

What is a Shed:

A Men’s Shed is a community based, non-profit organisation whose primary activity is the provision of a safe, friendly environment where members are able to work on meaningful projects at their own pace, in their own time, in the company of other men. A major objective is to advance the well-being and health of their members. Members of the Shed come from all walks of life. The bond that unites them is that they are men with time on their hands and they would like something meaningful to do with that time.
The overwhelming number of members are retirees who have background work skills which they want to utilise and (where appropriate) be able to teach other members.

The types of activities which are available.

The principal activities are around carpentry, wood and metal turning, metal fabrication and welding, computer skills and computer repair. Other activities will be incorporated depending on what skills, interests and hobbies new members bring to the Shed. For non-workshop members there is gardening, table games and general social interaction.

Pre-membership Interview

All applicants for membership are interviewed to:

–       obtain personal background information,

–       provide information and be shown the Shed features so that the applicant can determine if the Shed is for them, and

–       provide an opportunity to assess if the applicant and their motivations are appropriate for the Shed

Volunteering opportunities.

All members are volunteers. There is little scope for other types of volunteers. The major issue is that our insurances only apply to members.

Health Care Support

None of our members are qualified carers. They do not have the ability to attend to people with any medical conditions or physical or mental impairment. Our men are simply not able to provide any kind of health care support.

Membership Fees.

Membership fees are $50 p.a. plus $2 per day for tea/coffee etc except for the last Wednesday of the month which is the Monthly General Meeting followed by a BBQ lunch – Cost $5.

Location and Opening times.

The Shed is located at the Liverpool Council Depot at the bottom of Rose Street Liverpool and is currently open from 9am to 4pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 July 2018.
